Stocking Stuffer Ideas

Even if you're not prone to last-minute holiday shopping, stocking stuffers can still be an annoying afterthought. Don't end up scouring the local drugstore for filler (does dental floss count as a gift???). Instead, use this handy list to curate stockings your recipients will rave about.

Something Sweet

Yes the holidays are nothing but cakes, cookies, and candy canes but why not keep the party going? Everyone has a favorite sweet treat; show them how well you know them by slipping their favorite candy bar or chewing gum into their stocking.

For adults who don't eat candy (yes, there are such people) try a nip size of their favorite alcohol. You can also gift coffee, tea, or hot chocolate mix.

Something Practical

Don't pick anything that will elicit a groan (see above dental floss reference). Think functional and fun: a goofy pair of socks, a cool case for his or her cell phone or a webcam for their computer. You can even get away with an electric toothbrush, a wine bottle opener, a small manicure set (if it's a cute one!) or a pocket knife.

Something That Smells Good

You can opt to go all out and buy your sweetie's favorite cologne, aftershave or perfume. But if you're looking for something smaller try a candle, body wash, lotion or even some specialty soaps.

Something to Pass the Time

You can get a little indulgent here (hello, video game your kid has been begging for). But going for something simple works just as well.  Try a small journal a deck of cards, a cool pen, a pack of crayons, or even a diary.

Something to Beautify

For ladies this could mean a treasured hair product, some nail polish or that flat iron you know your daughter has been secretly saving her allowance to buy. For men, restock their favorite pomade or mousse product, get them a state-of-the-art electric razor or an old school black comb.

Something Silver or Gold

Everyone loves a sparkly treat in their stocking. Gift gals a pretty piece of jewelry or a watch. Then surprise the man in your life with a monogrammed money clip, cufflinks or a Zippo lighter.

Something to Keep Warm

Everyone can use a few extra winter accessories. Add mittens, a wool scarf, ear muffs or even a knit beanie to the mix. Looking for a really inexpensive stocking stuffer that will keep the cold at bay? Try a package of pocket hand warmers.

Something They Can Choose Themselves

An entire stocking full of cash and gift cards is a cop-out. But sticking a card with a crisp twenty dollar bill or a gift certificate to their favorite store is a thoughtful treat.
